International Automobile Industry Awards 2026 Successfully Concluded at Temple Trees

The Fairtrade Auto initiative was officially launched on 18 December 2025 at Temple Trees.

Fairtrade Auto is a certification program designed for the automobile industry to recognize and certify businesses that operate with fairness, transparency, ethical business practices, and professional standards. The program encourages organizations to adopt responsible business practices while building greater trust and confidence among customers and industry stakeholders.

The launch event brought together distinguished guests, industry leaders, and representatives from the automobile sector to mark the beginning of this important initiative. The program highlighted the significance of promoting ethical business practices and setting higher standards for the Sri Lankan automobile industry through the Fairtrade Auto certification.

Under the theme "The Next Chapter in the Automobile Industry", the initiative aims to connect the entire automotive supply chain—from suppliers and distributors to service providers and workshops—through a nationally recognized Fair Trade framework. The programme promotes ethical business practices, quality standards, and consumer protection while encouraging greater collaboration across the industry.

Through this initiative, Sri Lankans can now reap the benefits of Fair Trade, ensuring higher service standards, increased trust, and a more sustainable automotive ecosystem. The event marked the official announcement of the prestigious awards ceremony scheduled for June 2026. Industry leaders, media personnel, and automotive enthusiasts gathered to witness the unveiling of the award categories, jury panel, and nomination process. The media launch featured keynote addresses from leading figures in the automotive industry, highlighting the significance of recognizing excellence in automotive design, innovation, and sustainability.

On 09 July 2025, the Automobile Industry Council (AIC) Sri Lanka successfully conducted a Career Guidance Program for the students of Christ King College. The session was designed to introduce students to the wide range of career opportunities available in Sri Lanka's automobile industry while highlighting the importance of technical education, professional skills, and innovation. Through interactive discussions and expert guidance, students gained valuable knowledge about industry trends, future career pathways, and the skills required to build successful careers in the automotive sector. The program inspired participants to explore emerging opportunities and make informed decisions about their future.

On 24 June 2025, the Automobile Industry Council (AIC) Sri Lanka successfully conducted a Career Guidance Program for Teachers at the Community Education Center, Thalahena, Malabe. The program was designed to equip educators with a deeper understanding of career opportunities in Sri Lanka's rapidly evolving automobile industry. Participants were introduced to current industry trends, emerging technologies, technical education pathways, and the skills required for future employment. Through engaging presentations and interactive discussions, the program empowered teachers to provide informed career guidance to students while strengthening the connection between the education sector and the automotive industry.

On 12 December 2024, the Automobile Industry Council (AIC) Sri Lanka successfully conducted a Career Guidance Program for students of the Ceylon German Technical Training Institute – Moratuwa. The session was designed to provide students with valuable insights into career opportunities within the automobile industry, professional development, and the skills required to succeed in the modern automotive sector. Through engaging discussions and practical guidance from industry experts, participants gained a better understanding of career pathways and future prospects, helping them make informed decisions about their professional journey.

The highly anticipated Skills Expo 2024 took place from September 10 to 12 at the Nelum Pokuna premises. This year's event brought together industry leaders, educational institutions, and aspiring professionals to explore a wide array of skills and career opportunities. Attendees participated in workshops, seminars, and networking sessions designed to enhance professional development.

The Automobile Industry Council initiated a national career guidance programme which saw over 3,000 children from Grade 9–13 receive professional guidance at Skills Expo 2024. This was the single largest counselling programme done in Sri Lanka to date.

The Automobile Industry Council is upskilling and reskilling existing career guidance officers and counsellors through a series of trainings and workshops. This is the 1st stage of creating master career guidance counsellors.

A motivational seminar aimed at inspiring students in Automotive Engineering was held at BMICH during the Industry Expo 2024, featuring industry leaders who shared insights with aspiring automotive engineers.

As part of the collaboration between the AIC and the Ministry of Education, a Master Trainer Programme was initiated within the Western Province to provide career guidance to over 40,000 students.

The AIC successfully commenced the "Automobile Business Development & Sustainability Course," focusing on transforming service-based businesses into manufacturing entities.

The Automobile Industry Council was officially launched at Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo by three Cabinet Ministers, signifying a new dawn for the automobile industry in Sri Lanka.
